Full Phils secures landmark partnership with the University of the Philippines
By: Sofia Velasco
On August 11, 2024, Full Phils officially signed with the University of the Philippines (UP) as an official school partner, expanding the educational program of the UP System to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong.
The University of the Philippines is the leading national university in the country. One of the prime programs of the UP System is the University of the Philippines Ventures for International and Transformative Academia (UP VINTA).
As part of the UP Open University, the goal of the UP VINTA program is to provide a top-notch, transnational UP curriculum through distance learning to OFWs. Simultaneously, OFWs can enhance their career opportunities while providing for their families in the Philippines.
By partnering with UP, Full Phils is strengthening its commitment to providing higher education to OFWs. The scholarships that Full Phils will be giving to those enrolling in the UP VINTA program are a big step towards empowering migrant workers since many of them sacrifice their academic aspirations to become household providers.
Being both a Full Phils scholar and a UP student will not only give increased career opportunities to OFWs, but also ensure that they can continue supporting their families without increased financial burdens. With this milestone, our Full Phils scholars can also be called iskolar ng bayan.
The UP VINTA program expanded internationally to Japan, Thailand, Dubai, and Taiwan earlier this year. The launching of the fifth UP VINTA program in Hong Kong and scholarships from Full Phils breaks down both geographical borders and socio-economic barriers, allowing our kababayans to access quality UP education.
The UP VINTA Hong Kong students will have a virtual learning center they can approach for academic questions and concerns. With the help of distance learning tools and the Philippine Consulate in Hong Kong, OFWs can undergo the examinations needed to enter the UP VINTA program.
