Full Phils launches groundbreaking partnership with the Philippine Women’s University

By: Zaira Syarifah

Recognized as the first university for women in Asia founded by Asians, the Philippine Women’s University (PWU) has played a significant role in improving the lives of Filipinos all over the country.

Founded in 1919, PWU was established to prepare young Filipino women for a life of service, leadership and active civic participation through quality education. It pioneered several projects, including the Social and Civic training in 1938. After the war, the school continued to achieve several milestones, such as the establishment of The Institute of Human Relations and the Family Life Workshop of the Philippines in 1948, the first evening school for working women called The Community College in 1949, and The Philippine School of Social Work in 1950.

PWU’s commitment to its core values is demonstrated by a curriculum that fosters holistic development of personality and moral character, family solidarity, ethical professionalism, and service to the country.

As a result, Full Phils partnered with PWU in hopes of nurturing its Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) with the same values. Full Phils founder, Emilio Baja, had recently met with the PWU President, Vice-President, and Chancellor to formally sign the Memorandum of Understanding.

“Our partnership with the Philippine Women’s University will broaden the avenue for OFWs to attain the college education they so need. We hope that through our scholarships, our hardworking, diligent, and intelligent Overseas Filipino Workers in Hong Kong will be able to uplift their lives for the better,” said Baja.

Majority of OFWs in Hong Kong are female domestic helpers. Full Phils shares PWU’s mission of uplifting lives through transformative and inclusive education by leveraging its alternative education program.

This partnership is anchored on the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program or ETEEAP, an educational assessment scheme that allows working professionals to attain academic degrees based on their skills, prior education, and working experience. ETEEAP was designed specifically for employed individuals who were unable to apply or finish college.

ETEEAP supplies a route unaccompanied by the conventional structure of traditional schooling methods, which facilitates a more convenient path to quality education for our OFWs.

With Full Phils, Overseas Filipino Workers in Hong Kong can fast-track their goals in having sustainable livelihoods and job security as they will be able to earn a university degree in just one year, opening up doors to better job opportunities overseas or in the Philippines.
