Catching up with our PrimeCredit Scholars

Catching up with our PrimeCredit Scholars

We caught up with our scholars sponsored by PrimeCredit about how they are dealing with their studies while working as domestic helpers in Hong Kong. From their aspirations to challenges uniquely theirs, let’s hear from them through this short interview.

Cherelyn Trilles, BA Psychology

Currently: Second Year, First Trimester

What are your challenges as a working student?

As a working student, my number one challenge is time management. It’s so hard to find time to study, especially now, since I’m taking care of the elderly. It’s so hard for me to catch up with time for studying in the evening so I need to wake up early in the morning.

I don’t pursue opportunities already in other organizations since it limits my time. I need to focus on this academic study.

What is your dream after you study?

My dream after I study is to get involved in organizations that help with mental health issues of domestic helpers that are suffering from anxiety, depression, or any mental health issues.

Why is it important for OFWs to study again?

As a person we are composed of pieces. One of our pieces is education. For me, it is important because this is my missing piece. I did not go to college, so I grabbed the opportunity – this privilege available to all domestic helpers that is offered by Full Phils.

I’m so grateful to be a Full Phils scholar under PrimeCredit. It is an opportunity for us to grow. Not only physically and mentally, but especially in learning to deal with people. Thank you, PrimeCredit!

Floribel Guillermo, BS Hospitality Management

Currently: Second Year, First Trimester

What are your challenges as a working student?

For me, as a working student, I have a lot of challenges like time schedules. especially when we have guests. I am not able to study because I have to finish my work very late.

What is your dream after you study?

My dream after I finish my studies is to go back to the Philippines. I dream of having an apartment business with a restaurant at the ground floor. But before that, my plan B is to apply for a hospitality job in Hong Kong so I can earn a higher salary and save money for my business.

Why is it important for OFWs to study again?

I think it’s very important because this is for self achievement and to get better opportunities.

I’d like to thank PrimeCredit for sponsoring my education, also made possible by Full Phils. I promise to finish my studies and to be an inspiration to others.
